Carbon Black #CAS1333-86-4
Rubber grade carbon black is chemically stable under normal temperature and pressure. It is insoluble in water, ethanol and most common organic solvents. It has strong chemical inertness and does not react with dilute acids, dilute alkalis and general neutral substances under conventional conditions. It has excellent heat resistance and will not decompose easily at normal rubber vulcanisation temperatures. It has strong adsorption capacity, and can adsorb oil, moisture and gas molecules on its surface. It is combustible when exposed to open flame; fine carbon black powder may form explosive dust mixtures when suspended in air at a certain concentration. It can react with strong oxidants such as concentrated nitric acid and potassium permanganate under heating conditions to produce oxides of carbon. It will not undergo obvious chemical changes during rubber mixing and vulcanisation, and mainly relies on physical filling and interface interaction to improve rubber properties. It should be stored in a dry, ventilated place, away from open flames and strong oxidising agents.
Application of Carbon Black
Rubber grade carbon black is the most widely used reinforcing filler in the rubber industry. When incorporated into natural rubber, styrene-butadiene rubber, butadiene rubber, nitrile rubber and other rubber matrices, it forms a strong interfacial bonding effect with rubber macromolecules, greatly improving the tensile strength, tear resistance, abrasion resistance and anti-fatigue performance of vulcanised rubber. It is the core reinforcing material for tyre manufacturing, including tyre tread, sidewall and inner rubber parts, which can effectively resist friction and dynamic load, prolong the service life of tyres and ensure driving safety. It is also widely used for rubber products such as conveyor belts, rubber hoses, sealing gaskets, rubber rollers, shock-absorbing rubber parts and rubber shoe soles, to enhance the mechanical strength and wear resistance of these finished goods. Besides the reinforcing function, carbon black also acts as an ultraviolet shielding agent and anti-ageing additive in rubber compounds, which can block ultraviolet rays and slow down the thermal‑oxidative ageing of rubber polymer chains, delaying the hardening and cracking of rubber products exposed outdoors for a long time. It can also adjust the colour and conductivity of rubber materials. It is commonly used in conductive rubber and antistatic rubber products when conductive grades are selected. It is compatible with most rubber raw materials, vulcanising agents, activators and other rubber additives. It is not suitable for food‑contact or feed applications, and it is only dedicated to industrial rubber formulation.
