Rubber grade zinc oxide #CAS1314-13-2
It is stable under normal temperature and pressure. It is insoluble in water and ethanol, but soluble in dilute acids, ammonium salt solutions and strong alkaline solutions. It can react with acids to produce zinc salts and water. It has amphoteric properties and can react with strong alkalis to form zincates. It does not decompose at ordinary temperatures. When exposed to high temperature, it turns yellow, and the colour will fade back to white after cooling. It can absorb carbon dioxide and moisture in the air gradually, forming basic zinc carbonate. It is non‑flammable and non‑explosive. It has weak corrosiveness. It should be stored in a dry and ventilated place, kept away from acidic materials.
Application of Rubber grade zinc oxide
It is an indispensable inorganic functional additive for the rubber manufacturing industry. As a high-performance vulcanisation activator in natural rubber, styrene-butadiene rubber, butadiene rubber, nitrile rubber, neoprene rubber and latex systems, it can greatly boost the activity of vulcanising agents, speed up the vulcanisation rate, optimise the crosslinking structure of rubber molecules, and significantly improve the elasticity, tensile strength, tear resistance, abrasion resistance and thermal ageing resistance of finished rubber products. It also functions as a heat-conducting filler and white pigment in rubber compounds, promoting heat transfer during mixing and vulcanisation, reducing local overheating, and providing good whiteness and hiding power for light-coloured rubber articles. It can suppress the degradation of rubber polymer chains under long-term heat and oxygen exposure and extend the service life of rubber parts such as tyres, conveyor belts, rubber hoses, sealing gaskets, rubber rollers and shoe soles. Beyond rubber applications, it is utilised in coating and paint production as an anti-corrosion pigment and filler to enhance the anti-rust performance and weather resistance of coatings. It serves as a fluxing agent and opacifier in ceramic and glaze production to adjust the sintering effect and surface texture. It is also adopted as a raw material for manufacturing various zinc-based chemical products and inorganic reagents. It should be noted that this rubber grade zinc oxide is specially formulated for industrial rubber use only; it does not meet the purity standards for food or feed, and must not be used as nutritional supplement for food, feed or direct contact with edible materials.
